The feature documentary, We Were Children, directed by Tim Wolochatiuk, focuses on the impact of residential schools on its survivors. For over 130 years till 1996, more than 100,000 of Canada's First Nations children were legally required to attend government-funded schools run by various Christian faiths. There were 80 of these 'residential schools' across the country. Most children were sent to faraway schools that separated them from their families and traditional land. Told through their own voices, We Were Children is the true story of two such children: Glen Anaquod and Lyna Hart. Due to the emotional and traumatic nature of the documentary, parental discretion is strongly advised.
a selection of short videos created for the St. Joseph's Mission Residential School Commemoration will be screened, and guest speakers include Maisie Wright and Marilyn Charleboy. Doors open at 6:30pm. Free admission made possible by a grant from the Williams Lake & District Credit Union.
The viewpoints and opinions expressed in this presentation are strictly those of the producers and may not reflect those of the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors, staff or volunteers.

Williams Lake Writer's Group next meeting:
Saturday, July 13th at 2pm
New World Coffee & Tea house
We're using a monthly prompt to stimulate us into writing outside of our comfort zone. You can just write a paragraph, a short story, or a whole freaking novel if you're that motivated! But please note, you are not required to share anything if you don't want to. Come out, see what we're about, and hopefully get inspired or get information.
July's prompt is:
'How I Spent My Summer Vacation'
That could be your real summer, a summer of the past or hell a summer of the future.
We're trying out prompts because we would like to create a group anthology that revolves around the surreal either in late 2013 or early 2014.
Any questions please contact either Jazmyn Douillard - firelightgleam@hotmail.com or April Gerwing - aprilgerwing@gmail.com
