THE ComeUNITY EVENT
Held on the traditional and unceded territories of the Northern Secwepemc people, in T'exelc / Williams Lake.
To gather in community and practice the principles of listening, connecting, and building relationships. The Community Arts Council of Williams Lake is seeking to bring an arts-based focus to the integral work of Truth and Reconciliation.

Doors at 6 pm - Join us for tea and snacks before the program begins.
STORYTELLING & SONG
Immersion into the cultures of kinship. Featuring Gary Stieman (Tsilhqot'in Knowledge Keeper from Tl'esqox), Amanda Wood (Anishinaabeg / Nlaka'pamux) and more. By donation.

SATURDAY APRIL 20
Doors at 9:30 am
Explore the way Indigenous Languages inform living, creating and thinking. Featuring Rebecca Solomon (Tsilhqot'in - Yunesit'in Language Coordinator) and multi-disciplinary artist Amanda Wood (Graduate of the En'owkin Centre's National Indigenous Professional Artist Training Program). We close our learning day with 'Listening Circles', a restorative justice process that grounds our learning towards action. With facilitation by Awakenings Anti-Racism's Margaret-Anne Enders and Gitxsan Knowledge Keeper Aubrey Jackson.

THE ComeUNITY PROJECT
We gather to explore the ways Indigenous arts and culture can inform the rebuilding of our village on a foundation of care, respect and compassion.
Arts build empathic bridges.

THE PURPOSE
As Kukpi7 Fred Robbins of Esk'etemc states in his advocacy, the work of meaningful Reconciliation is not for Indigenous People to do.
As a settler organization, Community Arts Council initiates partnerships, dialogue and commitment to learn and change.

We are grateful to the BC Arts Council and Province of BC, and the City of Williams Lake and Cariboo Regional District via the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society for their ongoing funding support, especially of projects that support pathways to Truth and Reconciliation.
